1954 Vintage Stratocaster

images via this auction

"LEO MADE HIS FIRST STRAT IN MARCH 1954, STRATS SER #;S STARTED WITH 0100, THIS IS 0352

MANY STRAT BODIES "DID NOT" HAS A WORM ROUTE,AS THIS DOES NOT. IT HAS CORRECT NAIL HOLES AND ROUNDER MARKS. MOST OF THE FIRST STRATOCASTER'S WERE HEAVIER BODIES, AS THIS ON IS LITTLE OVER 4-1/2lbs.

FIRST TREM BLOCKS MADE HAD REAL SHALLOW HOLES FOR STRINGS.

FIRST STRAT NECKS HAD ROUNDER EDGES, IN 1955 THEY HAD MORE SHARPER EDGE.

3 PAT# ON 3-WAY

THE FIRST STRAT PICKGUARDS HAD MATTED FINISH ON BACK, THEN FENDER CAME UP WITH DIFFERENT MATERIAL, AND HAD SHINNY GLOSS ON BACK. THIS HAS A MATTED BACKING AND IS .060 THICK. I CAN'T BE SURE IF THIS IS ORIGINAL TO THE GUITAR.

BASICALLY, STRAT'S THAT WERE MADE BEFORE OCT 13, 1954 WERE PRE PRODUCTION SAMPLES, OR ARTIST MODELS. SOLD DIRECTLY TO MUSICIANS FROM THE FENDER FACTORY.

THIS STRAT HAS THAT MOjO. PICKUPS ARE STRONG, QUIET & TONEFULL. BRIDGE READS 6.26k, MIDDLE 6.21k, NECK 6.07k. IT WEIGHS 7.875 lbs WITH STRINGS AND TREM ARM IN IT. THE FRETS ON IT HAVE TONS A MEAT LEFT, IT PLAYS AND STAYS IN TUNE LIKE NO OTHER STRAT DOES. ALL SET UP WITH TREM BAR ACTION. THIS STRAT SOUNDS GREAT ON ALL LEVELS OF VOL. EVEN ON 2, IT HAS BELL TONE. 3-WAY WORKS NICE AND SOLID. THE KNOBS ARE LATER 50'S. "
