1967 Custom Epiphone Howard Roberts

via this auction

"vintage custom 1967 Howard Robert Epiphone Jazz/Blues guitar. This is the CUSTOM and not the standard and is 42 and 1/2 inches long. I believe there were only 54 Custom Howard Roberts Guitars ever made and all were sunburst or cream. This is a very rare guitar because it is black and I am told it is the only black one and still has the original paper label on the inside and is numbered 891833. There was only one custom Epiphone Howard Roberts made in 1967 and this is the one. This guitar was custom ordered and is rumored to have been played by Howard Roberts himself."

hey sam - you are full of shit big time. I am the owner of the 1967 Custom Howard Roberts black guitar. It was given to me by my dad, who puchased it in 1968 at Berea Music Studio in Berea Ohio. I also have contacted the salesman who sold it to my dad, which I can document. Since it seems you know everything about guitars I will bet you $10,000.00 that it is exactly what the article says it is with the serial number still intact inside the guitar. You can bring anyone you want to examine this guitar, and I will bring it anywhere at anytime you wish. Make sure you have the $10,000.00 with you, and I will bring my $10,000.00 in cash. If interested leave a comment Mr. Guitar man....

You are right papajoe. I have the same exact guitar. I have quite a collection of archtops and this HR Custom is at the top of my list. Do you plan on selling it?

I wound up with a '68 Epi Custom recently. Dark brown, too, with the top darker than the rest of the guitar. In fact, I thought the top was black until I took it outside and looked at it in strong sunlight! Very interesting guitar, very 'articulate'. The long scale is easy to play. The neck is substantial and full to my average-sized hands. The nut width is 1 21/32nd" inches, but feels wider than that, probably because of heft of the neck. Great pickup sound. I'm not trying to sell it, but I would love to talk to other HR Custom & Standard players. Give me a shout! 8172391831
