1963 Fender Stratocaster DAKOTA RED over CANDY APPLE

via this auction where you'll find more pics.

"1963 Fender Stratocaster in Factory Original DAKOTA RED

This is one of the rarest Custom Color Pre-CBS Stratocasters on the planet, so rare you may never even see one again. Its an authentic 1963 Fender Stratocaster that was sent back to the original Fender Fullerton factory to be refinished Dakota Red over the original 1963 Fender Candy Apple Red finish. The story goes that the original owned ordered a "Red" Stratocaster in 1963 and when he received it discovered that it was the "wrong color red". The guitar was subsequently returned to the Fender Fullerton factory where they applied the correct "Dakota Red" over the original Candy Apple Red in the spring of 1964. If you look closely at the pictures you can see all the original correct Fender factory markings and stamps that document this including the original CA RED stamp (note the gold undercoat in the neck pocket also)..."
