Gibson Les Paul Sunburst XR-1 Previously Owned by Les Paul

via this auction where you'll find more pics.

"UP FOR AUCTION IS A 1980 GIBSON LES PAUL SUNBURST XR-1 PREVIOUSLY OWNED BY LES PAUL HIMSELF. Aside from the exceptions listed below, this guitar is in NEAR MINT/LIKE NEW/10 condition. It comes in the original case (pictured) which features several hand-written labels and notes by Les Paul. The XR-1 was guitar was #G 46 in his collection and is PROMINENTLY FEATURED ON PAGE 351 OF LES PAUL'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY [Les Paul: In His Own Words; Gemstone Publishing, 2009]. (See pictures)

This guitar was purchased last June at the "Property From The Estate of Les Paul" auction conducted by Julien's Auctions of Beverly Hills, CA. It was item #588 in the auction and can be found on page 320 of the official auction catalog viewable at Julien's website. Since I received the guitar, I have played it twice and placed it back in the case and it is in the same condition as it was when it shipped from the Estate auction. Due to a death in the family and the expenses related to it, I am reluctantly choosing to sell this rare piece of American Music history. A careful review of the pictures and related information will confirm for the educated buyer that this is in fact the actual item stated and has been fully authenticated by Julien's and the Les Paul Estate. As such, I would prefer that this guitar goes to a true collector, museum, or working musician who will properly care for and cherish this rare piece of American Music memorabilia. That being said, here are the details of this auction.

CONDITION: This is an excellent example of a very rare model of the Gibson Les Paul, the XR-1 in Cherry Sunburst, which Les received from Gibson in early 1981. It features an unbound maple top, ebony finger board, and mahogany body. The pickups are a pair of Dirty Fingers PAF's with a coil splitting switch on the bridge position pickup. This is the same model Les Paul played by the late Steve Clark of Def Leppard. The only functional issue with this guitar is a minor bow in the neck and the truss rod nut needs to be replaced. If you choose to fix it, you should contact Gibson directly for the repair, which Les intended to do before his death, according to the notes on the case. Aside from that, this guitar is in like new/near mint condition, no scratches, dings, dents or gouges anywhere. It is completely factory stock original, and it is rare to find one in this condition anywhere. It still has the actual strings Les had on it when he owned it, so you get his strings, as well. It was graded by the auction house as a 10, as seen in the auction listing. The two electronics cavity covers still have the factory plastic on them. Inside the main cavity are the pickup ratings tested by Les in his own writing (see picture). His inventory number [G 46] is featured on the label he affixed to the headstock and on the case, as well. The original case, which is also in new condition, features several notes on masking tape about the guitar hand-written by Les Paul, as this was how he kept track of his inventory. No other equipment or accessories are included with the guitar."
